This coming Thursday, October 23rd from 6 to 8 PM; a special guest will be speaking at Second Church of Christ about survival and recovery. Jim Russell, executive director of the Vermilion County Mental Health 708 Board, says Trish Kendall will have a lot to talk about; having suffered from childhood sexual abuse, and then substance use disorder.
AUDIO: Hopefully, that story will give hope to people who are struggling, especially with substance use disorder; that there is hope. People can get better. People can get out of an addiction. And people can lead successful lives.
This is a free program; open to the public. Russell says numerous local resources will be there, explaining the help that they can offer.
AUDIO: Folks who are involved in trying to reach out and help people who are struggling; either starting the journey to recovery, or have been there for a while. And to just talk about the different resources that are available in Vermilion County.
Russell reminded us that loved ones of those going through recovery can benefit from Thursday’s program as well.
AUDIO: One of the things we’ve talked about before is that people who are in recovery will have relapses from time to time, it just goes with the territory. And sometimes the response of the people around them, to their relapse, goes a long way in determining what their next steps are.
The Second Church of Christ in Danville is at 3350 East Voorhees Street.
