It is almost that time. For prospective candidates wanting to run in the March 17, 2026 General Primary Election; petition filing time at the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office begins at 8 AM next Monday, October 27th. The filing period will conclude at 5 PM on Monday, November 3rd.
Supervisor of Elections Carrie Wilson reminds everyone to have all paperwork notarized and bound ahead of time; to avoid losing your place in line. And the clerk’s office does have free notarizations available daily, 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
AUDIO: Of course anyone here in line, at 8 AM on the first day of filing, will be first on the ballot; unless there is multiple filings. At which point, we will hold a lottery for ballot placement. But if their papers are not bound, ready to be filed; then they be asked to step out of line, and they will not have that 8 o’clock filing time.

County Clerk Robyn Heffern says they’ll be expecting a good crowd at 8 AM Monday the 27th.
AUDIO: It’s usually pretty busy the first day of filing. A lot of people want to get here to get their name on the ballot first. But I’m expecting a big turnout; we’ve had a lot of packets picked up.
The positions the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office will be accepting petitions for include Board of Review, County Clerk, County Treasurer, Regional Office of Education, Sheriff, Supervisor of Assessments, County Board Members, and Precinct Committeepersons.
