Coming up soon, from October 30th through November 6th, Project Success of Vermilion County will be participating in a series of nationwide “Lights on Afterschool” celebrations to spotlight the importance of afterschool programs. Project Success Program Director Abby Bowen-Smith explains the importance of these celebrations.
AUDIO: (It’s) held every year to celebrate how important afterschool programs are, and what role afterschool programs play for students’ success in school and life. And we just want the community to come out and see what we do, and see all the wonderful things that students and families get to take part in.
Bowen-Smith says these events are for entire families; with plenty of snacks and fun activities available.
Four of these will be held 5 to 7 PM Thursday, October 30th; celebrating afterschool programs in Hoopeston, the Salt Fork School District, Oakwood, and Westville and Georgetown (see locations below).
There will be another celebrating Danville District 118 programs; Friday October 31st from 6 to 9 at the Laura Lee Fellowship Hall. Then, another one in Georgetown will be held at Pinecrest Elementary, 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, November 6th.
