DANVILLE — A city employee who was fired earlier this year has filed a wrongful-termination lawsuit against the city and Mayor Rickey Williams Jr.
Before her firing in February, Sandra Finch, 65, had been with the city for about 35 years and was most recently serving as human-relations administrator, handling employee relations, discrimination and housing-related complaints and ensuring civil rights and city policy compliance.
She said she was fired for standing up for the rights of a woman who was having an issue with her landlord.
In the lawsuit filed last month, which requests a jury trial, Finch said in May, she filed a discrimination charge against the city with the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Finch received a “notice of opt out” from the state agency in June, which signaled the end of its investigation and allowed her to pursue action in circuit court.
