RANKIN — Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department Cpt. Mike Hartshorn said it could be days to months before remains could be possibly identified as a missing Rankin man.
The timeline will depend on the Illinois State Police Crime Lab, he said.
The sheriff’s department announced Wednesday that a Peoria man has been charged in the 2024 murder of Frank Lucas of Rankin.

Johnny Gibson, 56, was taken into custody at his residence and charged with murder, dismembering a human body and concealing a homicidal death. He is being held in the Vermilion County jail.
Lucas, 55, was reported missing July 11, 2024. Investigators said Lucas likely “died of homicidal means” and developed Gibson, a former neighbor, as a suspect.
