THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY 200TH ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE RELEASE
In honor of Vermilion County’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, the Vermilion County 200th Anniversary Committee and the Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society are sponsoring a Pioneer Recognition Project.
IGHS and the 200th Anniversary Committee will issue Pioneer Certificates to direct descendants of early pioneers who settled in Vermilion County by 1876 or earlier. The certificates are 8-1/2″ by 11″, printed on heavy parchment, and depict various historical sites in Vermilion County.
The certificates will be given in three categories: Trailblazers – Before 1826, Early Pioneers – 1826 to 1850, and Old Settlers – 1851 to 1876. The fee for each pioneer application is $10.
The Pioneer Recognition Project application and directions are attached. Copies are also available at IGHS at 215 W. North Street in Danville. One may also find a copy of the directions and application at the IGHS website (illianagenealogicalandhistoricalsociety.org).
