Danville, October 30, 2025 – The City of Danville will be rescheduling the upcoming “What’s Brewing with Mayor Williams” event originally planned for November 5th. We will be rescheduling to November 13th from 5:00-6:30 PM at Turtle Run Golf Course and Banquet Center. While we regret any inconvenience this may cause our community members who were planning to attend, we’re excited to share the reason behind the change.
Danville, Illinois, has been selected by the Illinois Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) to receive the 2024 Project of the Year Award for the Garfield Park and Aquatic Center Project. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr., will proudly accept the award along with Director of Public Works & Engineering, Dave Ruwe. Accompanying them will be representatives of both the Farnsworth Group, who designed the project, and Schomburg & Schomburg, the Danville contractor who constructed. This project embodies our commitment to quality living, community resurgence, and creating vibrant spaces for all to enjoy.
Mayor Williams enthusiastically stated, “While some may view the Garfield Park and Aquatic Center as controversial, I believe the people of Danville deserve vibrant recreational spaces right here at home. As we tackle and complete major infrastructure projects, such as the sewer system, we must also invest in the quality of life for our residents. Situated within blocks of two of our largest elementary schools, Garfield Park is one of our city’s most active and accessible spaces. It is heavily utilized by both the Boys & Girls Club and the Seahawks, our largest youth football and cheerleading program, and will next year house the city-sponsored Bobo Smalls Youth Basketball League. Needless to say, I am proud that we are able to revitalize Garfield Park and Aquatic Center. This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our Public Works team and Grant Manager Cailee Sanchez.”
