THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
People v. Kaydo Moreman 2023-CF-715
On October 31, 2025, Kaydo Moreman (DOB: 11/14/1996), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of Weapon by Felon, a class 2 felony, and was sentenced to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Moreman will serve a term of one-year mandatory supervised release following his release from prison. The plea and sentencing hearing were presided over by Judge Karen Wall.
The People presented evidence that on November 15, 2023, Danville Police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Main and South Streets. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his left thigh and administered aid until emergency medical technicians arrived. Police obtained surveillance footage of an individual identified as Kaydo Moreman outside a nearby business holding a .40 caliber handgun. Through subsequent investigation, police identified two residences that Moreman visited following the shooting and obtained search warrants for those locations. During the execution of one of the warrants, officers recovered the same firearm observed in the surveillance footage. DNA testing conducted by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab confirmed the presence of Kaydo Moreman’s DNA on the firearm. Moreman has a prior felony conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the witnesses who came forward with information. She also thanked the Danville Police Department for their efforts in this case. State’s Attorney Lacy added, “Every time law enforcement takes a gun out of the hands of a repeat offender, it helps to make our neighborhoods safer. We will continue to work with police to protect our community.”
