It was a cold but busy Veterans Day on Tuesday. And Vermilion County War Museum Society president Larry Weatherford was glad to welcome lots of students, including those from Armstrong Ellis Grade School that were there for the indoor 2 PM playing of “Taps” on Tuesday.

AUDIO: We’ve had a number of visitors who just decided to come in today. A lot of adults; and then we have about 41 students I think now, from Armstrong Ellis Grade School, grades K through 4. And some of the kids, when you get upstairs you’ll see, are in outfits dating back in U.S. History.

Earlier in the day, Veteran Mckensy Ellis-White spoke at the Vermilion County Joint Veterans Council ceremony in front of the Korean and Vietnam War Memorials on North Hazel Street. Ellis-White says her work since her service, in the mental health field, is keyed by her interest in Veterans’ mental health.

AUDIO: I opened MpowEr Counseling, PLLC in 2018. But prior to that, when I got home from deployment, I worked at the VA in the substance use program. And so; my commitment is still, to this day, to help with the behavioral health and addiction needs of our community; especially our Veterans.
We also ran into retired North Ridge teacher Kathy Delzelo, who brought eight girls from a North Ridge club to view Veterans Day ceremonies.
