THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
People v. Chad Baker 2025-CF-53
On November 3, 2025, Chad Baker (DOB: 8/19/1974), formerly of Hoopeston, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, a class X felony. He was sentenced to 11 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and will serve a term of 18 months of mandatory supervised release following his release from prison. The plea and sentencing hearing were presided over by Judge Karen Wall.
The People presented evidence that on January 23, 2025, an officer with the Hoopeston Police Department conducted a traffic stop after observing the vehicle commit a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code. The car pulled over and the front seat passenger immediately jumped out of the car and fled on foot. The individual, identified as Chad Baker, was apprehended and searched incident to arrest. Police found Baker in possession of approximately 50 grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, over $300.00 in United State’s Currency, a list of names and a delivery schedule. Subsequent testing of the recovered substance was completed by
Illinois State Police Crime Lab and returned positive results for methamphetamine.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Hoopeston Police Department for their concerted effort to apprehend this defendant. She added, “This sentence should send a message to the public that we will bring drug dealers to justice to protect the good people of Vermilion County.”
