This, of course, is “Veterans Day Week.” And an important Veterans topic was recently addressed on D102’s The Big Show with Tommy B. Mission K9 Warrior is hosting the “Mission K9 Warrior Exclusive” black tie fundraiser (a suit coat suit and tie will do!); Saturday evening November 15th at 6 PM, in the Catlin Banquet Center.
During his time on The Big Show, Dave Hughes was asked by Tommy B about the start of Mission K9 Warrior about nine years ago.
AUDIO: And I did some research, and found out that service dogs were miraculously helping Veterans cope with their everyday lives; and bringing them out of depression and anxiety attacks, and so forth; and even waking them up from nightmares.
Mission K9 Warrior’s Neal Stephens talked about how his own experience, where the Veteran and the service dog are trained together to help with the bonding process; is exactly how Mission K9 Warrior goes about things.
AUDIO: They ended up starting a “train the trainer program” kind of thing. We would come in once a week. They would teach us what we needed to do. We’d go home and work on it, and then come back. And now Mission K9 has adopted that as our training program. We’ll introduce somebody to their dog, they’ll train with it two or three times, and then they’ll end up taking their dog home. If you see them around town, they’ll have a “service dog in training” vest on, instead of just a “service dog” vest.
