A special effort is underway to help unhoused persons of Danville and Vermilion County stay a bit warmer this coming winter. During recent meetings at Danville Area Community College (DACC), students and community members learned about the need for unhoused patrons of the Danville Public Library to have more clothing protection from harsh winter weather.
During the remainder of November, and continuing through December 6th, – a group of local community organizations are helping to collect donated small, warm clothing items. Any new, -or very lightly used- hats, scarves, gloves, socks of any size may be donated. Anyone who is interested may drop off their donated items to a collection box in the Danville Public Library during regular library hours.
Another event will be on December 4th- from 8am to 4pm, when all students and staff members of DACC have been invited to donate these same type of clothing items. Volunteers from local groups will have a collection box at Lincoln Hall of DACC’s Danville campus all day long on the 4th.
A collection box for donations of the warm clothing items is located at the Danville Public Library for the remainder of November through Dec. 6th
All donated items will be shared with those of need by community volunteers on December 11th, from noon to 3:00 pm – at the Danville Public Library. Any items remaining will be distributed for unhoused individuals of Vermilion County among shelter organizations of the local area.
All community members involved in this “clothing drive” appreciate greatly the warm items already donated, but many more donations are needed. The participating community organizations include Crosspoint Human Services, Student Democrats of Danville Area Community College, Danville Public Library. The Dwelling Place, Vermilion County Democratic Party.
