During Tuesday evening’s (Nov 25th) Danville City Council Public Services Committee meeting, Police Chief Christopher Yates cited a statistic in his report about overall crime incidents in Danville being down. But as Chief Yates always emphasizes; there is so much work to be done, and especially in specific areas. Speaking with CIMG after the meeting, the chief pointed to domestic violence and domestic type crimes as an example. Yates says the battle continues to FIRST, have more preventative measures; and SECOND, remove the stigma that can make someone hesitant to report a domestic incident.
AUDIO: We really need to get working with, you know, all the support groups. And get out there and really educate on the need of understanding the dynamics of it; breaking down any barriers of reporting it. Doing away with the stigma of it; and letting people know that we’re there. We’re wanting to tackle this, we’ve made improvements; but we’ve got a long way to go yet.
The chief stated that year to date through October, overall incidents are down 18.6%.
The next full Danville City Council meeting is at 6 PM; Tuesday, December 2nd. However; on Monday, December 1st; 3 PM in the City Council Chambers; there will be study session on the proposed new budget; scheduled to be passed along with the new tax levy sometime in December.
