THE FOLLOWING IS A CITY OF HOOPESTON RELEASE
The City of Hoopeston announces that a public warming center will be open at City Hall from Friday, December 12, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. through Monday, December 15, 2025 at 7:00 a.m. to provide residents a safe, heated space during a stretch of dangerously cold temperatures. The warming center will be located in the city council chambers and will remain open continuously throughout this period. All community members seeking relief from the cold are welcome.

In addition to using the warming center, the City encourages residents to keep the following cold-weather safety tips in mind:
• Dress in layers and cover exposed skin. Hats, gloves, and scarves can significantly reduce heat loss.
• Limit time outdoors. If you must be outside, take frequent warming breaks.
• Check on neighbors, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and those living alone.
• Keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn and never leave them unattended.
• Protect pipes by allowing faucets to drip and keeping cabinet doors open to let warm air circulate.
• Bring pets indoors and ensure animals have warm, dry shelter.
For more information about the warming center or additional community resources, residents may contact the City Hall at (217) 283-5833, the Hoopeston Police Department at 217-283-5196 or visit the City of Hoopeston website.
