ABOVE: CRIS Rural Mass Transit District, 615 E. Voorhees St., in Danville is closing.
DANVILLE — CRIS Rural Mass Transit District Interim Director Carol Timms said it “breaks her heart” that they will no longer be able to provide transportation for dialysis patients and others.
Due to not meeting financial, accounting deadlines and the Illinois Department of Transportation as a result freezing funding, CRIS Rural Mass Transit is ceasing operations.
The mass transit district has provided seniors and those with disabilities transportation from their homes for almost three decades, Timms estimated.
The organization on Friday announced that effective with its 6:30 p.m. Friday ride, CRIS Rural Mass Transit will no longer be offering rides in Vermilion, Ford and Iroquois counties.
“It is with extreme sorrow we announce the dissolution of CRIS Rural Mass Transit. Due to a decision by IDOT to freeze our funds, CRIS Rural Mass Transit cannot continue to operate,” the organization stated.
