Danville, IL – The Danville Police Department responded on January 8, 2026, to a report of a phone-in threat involving a possible school shooting directed at an unidentified Danville school.
Upon receiving the report, officers immediately initiated an investigation in coordination with the Danville School District to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community. As a precaution, appropriate safety measures were taken while officers worked to identify the source of the threat.
Through investigative efforts, officers were able to locate and identify the source of the threat, which was determined to be a juvenile. The juvenile was taken into custody and processed on the following charges:
• Making a Terroristic Threat
• Disorderly Conduct – Threat of Violence on or at School Property
• Disorderly Conduct – Reporting a False Alarm or Complaint via 9-1-1
The Danville Police Department takes all threats to schools seriously and will continue to work closely with the Danville School District and other partners to ensure the safety and security of the community. Incidents involving threats or false reports place unnecessary strain on emergency resources and pose a risk to the public and first responders and will be aggressively pursued to the fullest extent of the law.
Due to the involvement of a juvenile, no additional information will be released at this time.
