As the Illinois County Fair Queen competition approaches this weekend, The News-Gazette is highlighting each area queen who will throw their crown and sash in for the state title this week.
Westville’s 20-year-old LILLY MEEKER isn’t just a fair queen; she is helping support one of the most in-demand careers in the country — nursing. She is halfway through her junior year at Millikin University, studying nursing. After this semester, she will start learning more about community health and medical-surgical, as well as shadowing professional nurses.
She was a pageant baby growing up and entered competitions ranging from “cutest baby” and “most photogenic” to the Vermilion County crown. She was runner-up twice for the same competition in years prior and won first at Georgetown’s pageant.
