The Danville City Council has authorized a grant application to the U. S. EPA seeking a Brownfield Community-Wide Assessment Grant. The City has identified the southeast corner of Fairchild and Vermilion Streets as a site where it wishes to spend funds to remediate potential petroleum or other hazardous substances.
Danville Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk says the city is anxious to have that site prepared for future development…
{AUDIO: “The City of Danville has been working on that property for about four to five years now. From acquisition to now – through remediation – a million-dollar construction job. Meaning there’s going to be a really large hole in the ground soon to remediate it. And hopefully we can market it and get it redeveloped just like Sonic and Jimmy Johns across the street.”}
The Brownfield Community-Wide Assessment Grant program provides federal assistance for dealing with sites for a period of four years.
