THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY WAR MUSEUM RELEASE
The third installment of the Vermilion County War Museum’s First Saturday “Fireside Chat” series will be “Threads of Liberty” on February 7th.” The “colorful” program will focus on Revolutionary War Uniforms and will be presented by Ron Bolser. Bolser said, “We’ll also focus on local tie-ins to the American Revolution including the Virginia style uniform worn by soldiers from the Illinois and Indiana territories, which were a part of the Virginia colony at the time.”
Bolser also said that the final Naval encounter of the Revolutionary War took place only a few miles from Vermilion County. The program starts at 1:00 p.m. and will last for around 45 minutes with time left for questions. Museum President Larry Weatherford will host the program. A portion of the History Channel program, in which Bolser took part, “The Long Knives,” will be shown. The War Museum is closed for tours during remodeling but will be open for the event.
Weatherford said, “The Fireside Chats feel like a guided tour through the topic rather than a formal lecture. This gives a relaxed and personal atmosphere with the audience listening in to the conversation and then taking part in the question-and-answer session.” Admission is free. A follow-up program on uniforms and weapons of the Revolutionary War will take place at the March 7th Fireside Chat.
