Danville City Council Alderwoman Tricia Teague recently hosted a citizens forum at the Danville Area Community College Bremer Center. Teague told CIMG that during this February 7th session; there was discussion about what residents love about Danville, what they see as challenges for Danville, and then a ranking of current priorities.
Teague stated that while a handful of topics tied for second place, number one was definitely economic development.
AUDIO: So jobs, businesses, restaurants specifically; was one of the particular things. Because what we did was, people just shouted out what their concerns were; and then we just wrote them all down. The economic development category actually consisted of a number of things. So even business development, how the city supports local businesses, was one of the things that was on there too.
One of the second place topics was city infrastructure. And Teague says that within that topic a popular concern was better sidewalks; to help pedestrians get from place to place, and especially business to business.
AUDIO: All of the shopping is up north, right? But there’s not sidewalks. So, if you wanted to go from one store to another, you’ve got to get on the bus, or you’re going to end up walking in the street at some point. You can’t go from Meijer to County Market without running out of sidewalk.
Other concerns mentioned at Teague’s forum included transportation, housing, violence, and city administration.
