DANVILLE — More than 100 Vermilion County residents learned more about the March 17 primary election candidates for county treasurer and sheriff at an almost two-hour candidate forum at the David S. Palmer Arena Thursday night.
The forum featured candidates for Vermilion County Sheriff, Democrat Hugh Sands and Republicans John Thompson and Mike Hartshorn. In addition, incumbent Treasurer Darren Duncan and his opponent, Jason Whaling also answered questions.
Local business owner Jakob Dazey organized the event.
The candidates shared their viewpoints on a number of topics including training, transparency and being fiscally responsible, officer recruitment and retention, mental health services for officers, staffing numbers, technology upgrades, community partnerships, investments, qualifications, what the candidates admire about their opponent, and goals in office.
