THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE LIGHT OPERA RELEASE
**Community members invited to help bring America’s founding story to the stage**
Danville, IL — DLO Musical Theatre has announced open auditions for its upcoming summer production of the Tony Award–winning musical *1776*, to be presented June 26–28, 2026 at the Danville Masonic Temple. The production is a special co-production with the Scottish Rite – Valley of Danville and will be directed by Jodi Prosser-Muller.
Community members are encouraged to audition for this patriotic and historic musical celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The show brings to life the debates, personalities, and political maneuvering that led to the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
### Audition Details
Auditions are open to **teens and adults**, and **no previous theatre experience is required**.

* Friday, March 13, 2026 — 6:00–9:00 PM
* Saturday, March 14, 2026 — 1:00–9:00 PM
* **Location:** DLO Backstage, 141 N. Walnut Street, downtown Danville
Audition appointments may be scheduled online through the DLO Musical Theatre website.
### What to Prepare
Auditionees should prepare a **40–60 second selection of a song** that demonstrates their vocal ability. The song **does not need to be from the show**. Participants should bring sheet music for the accompanist and clearly mark the portion they plan to sing.
During auditions, performers may also:
* Sing vocal scales to help determine range
* Read selections from the script individually or with others
Actors should bring a **complete list of scheduling conflicts through June 28**, as regular rehearsal attendance is required. Rehearsals will typically take place **Sunday afternoons and Tuesday and Thursday evenings**.
### About the Show
Featuring music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone, *1776* is one of Broadway’s most celebrated historical musicals. The story follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson as they work to persuade the members of the Continental Congress to vote for independence from Great Britain.
The musical humanizes America’s founders, presenting them as complex individuals—sometimes stubborn, sometimes humorous, and ultimately courageous as they debate the future of a new nation.
