DANVILLE — Multiple blighted buildings will be coming down in the downtown area with contracts to be acted on by the Danville City Council.
But Danville Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk says the public shouldn’t be concerned about not having wall-to-wall buildings downtown.
Cronk said downtown doesn’t have to be “so congested” and the city has a plan, partnering with Downtown Danville Inc., for the vacant sites that will remain. There can be more open spaces to be utilized by the downtown businesses and public, he said.
The city council’s Public Works Committee will consider recommending the demolition contracts at its 6 p.m. Tuesday meeting at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building, 17 W. Main St., to move them onto the full council on March 18.
The city had earmarked about $4 million for the demolition of multiple downtown structures due to them being unsafe and in need of demolition, including Bresee Tower.
