Danville Police Officer Scott Crawley was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Tuesday morning, March 10th in the Danville City Council Chambers. Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates stated afterwards that he is so glad that Sergeant Crawley tested for the Danville Police Department, nearly two decades ago when he was a Vermilion County Correctional Officer.

After a handshake with Mayor Williams and a thank you to his family, Sergeant Crawley received his new pin from his wife Kendra, with Mayor Williams and Chief Yates looking on.
AUDIO: He’s been an excellent officer. He may not have had stripes on his shoulders for the years prior, but people looked up to him as a leader. I looked up to him as someone that I could always count on in the street. He’s one of those guys where if anybody said anything negative about him, I would think that there was something wrong with that person.
For Sergeant Crawley, there were thoughts early on that maybe he could be a sergeant someday. But plenty of duties kept coming along to keep him busy.

AUDIO: (There were) other things that kind of came my way. The POP (Problem-Oriented Policing) unit; I ended up becoming a drug agent with VMEG (Vermilion Metropolitan Enforcement Group). And then I went back to day shift; did some training of new officers. And then this moment came up, and I decided to go ahead and take it. I’m doing to do my best. I’m going to protect this community. I’m going to make sure officers are doing the job correctly, and support them with whatever they need.
Sergeant Crawley first joined the Danville Police Department in 2009.
