ABOVE: A look back at Survivor Resource Center’s first “Dancing for the Stars” fundraiser event at the Fischer in October, 2022.
A busy weekend of entertainment, especially Saturday night, March 14th; is on tap for the Danville and Vermilion County area. At the Fischer, it’s the fourth annual Dancing for the Stars event for Survivor Resource Center at 7 PM Saturday. Fischer executive director Ashton Greer says this non-profit fundraiser just keeps getting better.
AUDIO: You know every year they do it, they improve things. And they have six dancers this year; local celebrities that get up with a trained dancer that teaches them how to do a dance routine, and then they compete for the title. It’s a really fun event.
The six celebrities competing this year are Annie Monyok, Tricia Keith, Kayla Dillman, Angela Rossi, the public library’s Brook Truscelli, and Danville City Council alderwoman Tricia Teague.
Meanwhile, at 7:30 Saturday evening, the Danville Symphony Orchestra will be performing at Danville High School’s Van Dyke Auditorium; with a concert that completely pays tribute to Vermilion County’s 200th anniversary. County Museum executive director Sue Richter explains.
AUDIO: And they’re dividing up the musical scores into different eras of Vermilion County history; and pertaining to different cultural and heritage events that happened here in Vermilion County. And then the largest part of it is the composer, Tim Corpus, has written a special theme for the county, for the 200th anniversary.

Then, at 7 PM Friday and Saturday and 2 PM Sunday, not to mention the following weekend as well, Red Mask Players are presenting Radium Girls. As Red Mask’s Lisa Lovelace reminded CIMG; this is a true story that goes back to the mid-1920s, but it’s a story very relevant to today as well. Ladies were employed painting watch dials using radium paint; having no idea about the future health and legal battles that awaited them.
The Fischer’s Ashton Greer, Danville’s former Community Relations Administrator, says this weekend shows what Danville has to offer.
AUDIO: It’s just really remarkable to see. There is so much to do here. Whenever I hear somebody say there’s nothing to do here; I’m like, “You are not looking in the right places.” Because we do have so much momentum going.
And we should also mention Danville Light Opera having auditions this weekend for their upcoming performance of “1776,” and the fact that Danville Area Community College is once again hosting the NJCAA Division II national basketball tournament, with DACC’s team participating, Monday through Saturday (March 16th-21st) of next week.
