A male Georgetown resident was still in the police department’s custody as of mid-Friday afternoon (April 3rd), pending transfer to the Vermilion County jail, after an active explosive device was found in his home in the 200 block of East Seventh Street. Georgetown Police Chief Whitney Renaker has told CIMG that police first received word about a possible explosive device in the home around 11 PM Thursday (April 2nd) night.
Chief Renaker stated that all occupied surrounding homes were evacuated; and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department and East Central Illinois Bomb Squad were called in for their assistance. The explosive device was located, and there were no injuries. Chief Renaker also stated that no specific motive has been established, but that it was a domestic incident.
