Some kids in the Westville area have completed work on ‘Rocky’ – a 200-rock long snake. They painted colorful rocks at the Westville Public Library and then helped build the snake in front of that building along Illinois route one.

The public is invited to stop by the library to view ‘Rocky’ and a soon-to-be added companion snake – ‘Rockette’. The snakes are part of Westville’s participation in the celebration of Vermilion County’s 200th birthday.
On June 10th through 14th, 2026, the Westville Freedom Celebration will be hosting numerous activities to note Vermilion County’s Bicentennial and America’s 250th anniversary.
Some of those activities include a patriotic home and yard decorating contest, bands, a flea market and crafts (on the grounds of St. Mary’s Church), a cruise-in on Friday, June 12th, a Westville American Legion Post 51 Freedom Ride and a Westville Alumni Dinner on Saturday, June 13th. The dinner will honor the Classes of 1976, 2001 and 2026. There will also be a patriotic golf cart parade on Sunday, June 14th, and a Vermilion County Voles Vintage Baseball game at Westville’s Zamberletti Park that day. And those are just some of the activities that will be taking place during Westville’s Freedom Celebration.
