THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
The Danville Police Department is providing an update regarding a shooting incident that occurred on March 22, 2025, in the 1200 block of E. Williams Street.
On April 1, 2026, the Department was notified that the victim, who was 15 years old at the time of the incident, succumbed to injuries sustained during the shooting while receiving treatment at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Lavelle Dozier, 18, of Danville, had previously been taken into custody in connection with this incident and was awaiting trial on related charges. On April 20, 2026, Dozier was formally charged with First Degree Murder in relation to the victim’s death.
The original incident occurred on March 22, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., when officers responded to multiple reports of a shooting and located the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. A suspect was taken into custody within two hours following a foot pursuit, with assistance from the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department.
This remains an active investigation. There is no further information to be released at this time.
