DANVILLE — It’s been years in the making, and now, in only a few weeks, a groundbreaking is expected and construction could start next month on a new teen center at the Boys & Girls Club of Danville.
Club Executive Director Rob Gifford said the investment — which includes $1 million from the Golden Nugget Danville Casino — is not just for area children, but for the community as a whole as well.
The club is to help youths’ futures, but it’s also for the future of the community, he said.
The planning process for the new teen center started when the casino was opening about three years ago.
As part of the Host Community Agreement, the developers committed $3 million in one-time donations to the Danville Riverfront Improvement Project, the Boys & Girls Club and the city of Danville, for city buildings.
