THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY WAR MUSEUM RELEASE
Two special events are coming up at the War Museum.
The first will be on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 16th. Admission will be free, and guests can tour and visit with reenactors and living history presenters at this annual event. Larry Weatherford, Museum President and Executive Director said, “There are a lot of new displays, exhibits and artifacts. Adding the living history presenters gives visitors another layer of time travel as they are taken back through the various eras of American History. We will also have veterans on hand from the conflicts beginning with the Vietnam era to talk about their service.”
For the War Museum’s First Saturday event on June 6th, it will be another free admission day and an opportunity to see the actual Medal of Honor awarded to Danville’s General John Charles Black. General Black’s granddaughter Abby Marsh will also be in attendance. Other items tied in to the 37th Illinois Infantry will also be on display. Historians Tim Smith and Michael Eberhardt speak and answer questions about General Black and his brother William. Both Black brothers were recipients of the Medal of Honor. The program will begin at 1:00 p.m. and a reception will follow the brief presentation.
The War Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. Through Monday, May 18th, flag sponsorships for the Rotary Club’s Memorial Way are also available at the War Museum which is located at 307 North Vermilion Street in Danville.
