People v. Tamarion Liggins 2024-CF-904
On May 29, 2026, Tamarion Liggins (DOB 5/9/2007), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Aggravated Battery – Firearm, a class X felony. Liggins, 17 years old at the time he committed this offense, was transferred to adult court upon petition by the State’s Attorney. His prison sentence will be served at 85%, and was ordered to be followed by 3 years mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing were presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin.
The People presented evidence that on November 30, 2024, Danville Police Department responded to a business on Bowman Avenue for a shooting that had occurred. Upon arrival, officers found a victim, laying on the ground, with a gunshot wound to her upper arm. Officers reviewed surveillance video from the business and identified that the shots came from a black Hyundai sport utility vehicle. Around the same time that officers identified the registered owner of the vehicle, the registered owner called into Communications to provide information about the driver and passengers of the vehicle. Following police interviews, Tamarion Liggins was
identified as the shooter. Further investigation led police to locate the gun, that had been discarded by Liggins near the area of Vine Street. The gun was a Lorcin .380, which had previously been reported stolen.
The female gunshot victim, who reported she was on a walk, leaving the business with a family member, suffered a spinal cord injury, and is now paralyzed from the chest down. In her victim impact statement, the victim said, “I was in ICU when I was told that I was paralyzed and would never walk again.” The victim added, “My whole livelihood changed before my eyes, all the hard work from college and working as a microbiologist was gone forever.”
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the victim for her strength throughout this case. She said, “This disturbing act of armed violence has forever changed this innocent victim’s life, leaving her paralyzed and facing extraordinary daily challenges. While no prison sentence can restore what has been taken from her, I hope this sentence provides a measure of closure for her and her loved ones.” The State’s Attorney also thanked the Danville Police Department for their work in this case to quickly apprehend the shooter.
