THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY WAR MUSEUM PRESS RELEASE
The next first Saturday event at the War Museum will be this Saturday, June 6th.
Visitors will be able to see the actual Medal of Honor awarded to Civil War General John Charles Black of Danville. His great-granddaughter, Abby Marsh and historians Michael Eberhardt and Tim Smith will join Museum President Larry Weatherford for a brief presentation on the General. Black later went on to serve in Congress, as Commissioner of Pensions for the military, State and National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, United States District Attorney, and President of the U.S. Civil Service system.
Following the program, there will be a reception and a tour of the Museum, including the Medal of Honor Room, where all twelve Medal of Honor recipients with ties to Vermilion County are recognized with individual displays.
The program starts at 1:00 p.m., and the Medal of Honor will be displayed until 3:00 p.m. First Saturdays are presented by the War Museum and Danville Township. Admission is free.
