ABOVE: CRIS staff members get ready to leave for Monday afternoon’s World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Walk.
Monday (June 15th) was World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which has been in existence since 2006. CRIS Healthy Aging Center staffers in Danville had their purple T-shirts ready to bring attention to the community with a 1 PM walk. CRIS executive director Lisa Miller spoke with CIMG.
AUDIO: Here at CRIS we have Adult Protective Services, we Violent Crime Victim Assistance, and we have the OVW Grant. We started a walk to honor this day. And we’re going to walk to Crosspoint Human Services Domestic Center, on to Survivor Resource Center, and then to the courthouse, and back to CRIS again.
Miller says the CRIS office is there for you to report any type of elderly or disabled abuse, and find out where to get help.
AUDIO: So anyone over 60, or anyone 18 to 59 who would be disabled; we can help. And then our OVW Grant helps people, such as rape victims; anyone 50 and older for that grant. So anyone 50 and older, call us, and we will help you.
CRIS Health Aging Center is located at 309 North Franklin in Danville, and can be reached at 217-443-2999.
