THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
During the early morning hours of July 23, 2026, officers with the patrol division were dispatched to several vehicle burglaries and attempted vehicle burglaries occurring on the northwest side of the city.
Concerned citizens contacted the police indicating that they had video footage of the suspect to provide to the police. After reviewing the video, officers identified the suspect as Dawson Shaw, 20, of Danville. Officers also discovered that Shaw was currently out of custody on pre-trial release for a pending criminal case in Vermilion County.
At approximately 11:24 a.m., an officer located Shaw walking in the 1500 block of Harmon Street and took him into custody. Shaw was transported to the Vermilion County Jail, where he was booked on charges of burglary to vehicle and criminal trespass to vehicle.
The Danville Police Department thanks the members of the community who provided vital information and evidence that helped to resolve this case. This case is an example of citizens and police working together to reduce the criminal footprint in our communities.
All suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
