Despite a rainy Saturday morning, it was a solid turnout for the Danville Police Department’s annual Mini-Marathon and Health & Wellness Fair at Lincoln Park’s “Friendly Town.” Joining the Police to put this event together were Birth to Five Illinois, Two Roads Wellness Clinic, OSF, and Active Education. And after both running events had started up with dozens of participants, Police Chief Christopher Yates was thankful the rain didn’t slow anything down, and that so many organizations were there with helpful advice for families.
AUDIO: Like life, nothing’s ideal. I mean; we had some rain early, it stopped; and now the kids are enjoying everything. We just had our first race go through. It’s looking good. It’s good to have the community all together. We’ve got OSF, we’ve got Carle, we’ve got Danville Fire. We’ve got 20 to 30 different vendors here.
State Rep Brandun Schweizer said it’s wonderful to have an event both getting the kids going, and offering important information to families.
AUDIO: It’s great to have an opportunity to get the kids out there running around. I mean, with all the electronics and TV shows and video games that can have kids parked in front of, it’s good to have something like this where they can get out and actually be active. A lot of organizations here with mental health; there is a crisis out there, so there’s a lot of organizations that can help out if you’re dealing with something like that.
The first place finisher in the mini-marathon for the older kids was 13-year-old Logan Yates.
