The City of Danville’s First Fridays for the month of September (this Friday the 4th) will actually have two major events going on downtown. From 5 – 8 PM in Temple Plaza will be Discover Danville; celebrating all kinds of cultures with everything from food to games to live musuc. As Danville Community Relations Coordinator Macy Davis told D102’s Tommy B on The Big Show; this was a successful First Fridays event before, and it’s time to go with it again.
AUDIO: I believe last year was the first year for Discover Danville. And we’re bringing it back, because it’s just wonderful celebration of the different cultures, and events and people, and all sorts of things that we have in Danville.
Right around 6:30 during the First Fridays Discover Danville festivities, the live music will pause in Temple Plaza to allow folks to head over to Vermilion River Beer Company for the 6:30 unveiling of Danville’s new Walldog Mural, celebrating Vermilion County’s 16,000 acres of parks and open space. As Tracey Fentem from the Danville Area Visitors Bureau reminds us, this piece-by-piece aluminum project will be yet another creation by Mike Meyer; known for example for the Chuckles – Evel Knievel mural over by Fatman’s.
AUDIO: And he is creating a collage of our 16,000 acres of parkland that showcases wildlife, rivers, trees; and he’ll put it up and cover it, and then he’ll unveil it at 6:30 Friday night.
We should also mention that the Vermilion County War Museum will be open during First Fridays 5 to 8 PM; and then they’ll have their regular FIRST SATURDAYS event at 1 PM Saturday afternoon.
