With the new concrete median installed on North Vermilion outside the non-traffic signal Tractor Supply entrance to Meijer, Danville’s Police Chief Christopher Yates says a new camera might be installed there, to see who is responsible if an accident occurs.
The rules are that only northbound traffic may turn in that way, and traffic coming out that way may only turn right and head north. Southbound traffic, coming and going, needs to use the nearby traffic light.

It was just recently that the Danville City Council approved the purchase of some new surveillance cameras for Danville Police. Chief Yates confirmed after Tuesday evening’s Public Services Committee meeting that some of the already existing cameras may be moved to new locations; and yes, one of them could be the Traffic Supply Meijer entrance, if so decided by department resource allocations and data analyst recommendations. If something does go wrong, then they can see who’s responsible.
AUDIO: We’re hoping the results are exactly what we were driven to do it for. And that’s to prevent traffic crashes. We’ve got to do everything we can to keep people safe. If it’s 30 seconds out of your way to go to an intersection to ensure someone else’s safety, or your own safety; I think it’s well worth it.
Chief Yates says it’s possible some of the drivers seen trying to U-turn around the new median early on may have done it because they were surprised by it. But they should realize by now that doing that is asking for a moving violation ticket.
