DANVILLE — Election signs have been out for the better part of a year now for some Danville mayor candidates, and filings officially started on Monday for next year’s election.
Four Danville mayor candidates were there when the Danville Election Commission office opened at 8 a.m. to file to be on the ballot.
Those were: Ward 7 Alderman Doug Ahrens, Ward 4 Alderwoman Tricia Teague, Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. and former Danville police Officer Dennis Witsman. A fourth challenger to Williams who also has announced his intention to seek election as mayor is the Rev. Frank McCullough.
Two others who picked up petitions to possibly run for mayor have been Tom Hightower, who only said he’d run if the city treasurer position was possibly changed to an appointed position which it will not, and Chris Hightower, who also picked up a petition to possibly run as alderman.
