Before any media outlet called the race for his opponent, Danville incumbent state Rep. Brandun Schweizer conceded his seat representing the 104th District in the Illinois House.
“I want to congratulate Mary Catherine Roberson on her victory,” the Republican announced at 5 p.m. Wednesday. “I wish her success as she prepares to serve the people of the 104th District. My office stands ready to work with her team to ensure a smooth transition of constituent services, because the people of our district must always come first.
“I will be praying for wisdom and strength as she takes on this responsibility.”
Roberson, a Democrat, leads by a margin of 18,772 (51.5 percent) to 17,671 (48.5 percent).
The first African American and first woman to represent the district said her top priority in Springfield will be affordability.
