Some local businesses, churches and others are changing their routines in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. At County Market stores in the Danville area, Jerry Kettler, Director of Consumer Affairs for Niemann Foods, Inc., says they have designated the first two hours of shopping each day to senior citizens, people with compromised immunity systems, and those who are pregnant.
Kettler says they are not going to be checking IDs at the door, but adds they are asking other customers to shop during other hours of the day. It is to help protect seniors and those with low immunity or who are pregnant from getting the coronavirus.
At Vibrant Credit Union access to branch lobby areas will be temporarily closed, effective Friday (March 20, 2020). Customers will still be able to carry out their business at drive-thrus at all Vibrant locations and by computer or phone.
Old National Bancorp announced they are temporarily shifting to appointment-only banking at all locations. Drive-thru operations will remain open and their hours will not change. Old National says shifting to appointment-only banking inside its locations will allow team members to clean and disinfect surfaces after each appointment.
Several area churches have temporarily decided to hold their services online instead of having people congregate at their building.
Some churches have said they will use Face Book Live to get their message out to the public.
Jerry Kettler, Director of Consumer Affairs for Niemann Foods, added there is no food shortage. He says the issue is getting the product from warehouses to store shelves because of the sudden demand for those products. And he says any displaced worker who is looking for work can apply at County Market.
