The Georgetown Fair and Balloons Over Vermilion are two big events helping to launch the rest of summer in our area. The fair runs Saturday, July 6th, through the 13th. And Balloons Over Vermilion is Friday and Saturday, July 12th and 13th.
Jeanie Cooke, Executive Director of the Danville Area Visitors Bureau, notes her office has been busy preparing for the balloon event…
{AUDIO: “We’re actually the information headquarters for Balloons Over Vermilion. We’re also on-site. So, if people have questions about what’s going on, or what to do, or anything here in town – we’re there to help them out.”}

Cooke adds there are a lot of other fun events that attract people to Vermilion County, including camping. The 183 camping sites at the Kickapoo State Recreation Area were all full over the Independence Day holiday weekend. So were the camping sites at Forest Glen County Preserve.

And if you are planning a ‘stay-cation’ instead of a vacation, you will be able to enjoy lots of other activities this summer…such as Dans games at Danville Stadium….
{AUDIO: “Danville Dans are in the middle of a season – full stride. A beautiful night at the ballpark, and it’s a great place for friends to come and enjoy very good baseball. We just got our 35th Major Leaguer as a Danville Dans alumni. But it’s just fun to be with your friends and neighbors and enjoy a great night out.”}
Of course there is also the new Danville Aquatic Center at Garfield Park, the Midwest Heritage Quilt Show being held this month at the Vermilion County Museum, a Summer Kids Movie Series at the Fischer Theatre – (sponsored by the Danville Public Library and the Danville Library Foundation) — along with other events at the Fischer Theatre, and the Vermilion County War Museum. The American Legion State Golf Tournament is being held in Danville in August. Plus more First Friday events are coming to Downtown Danville. There are local farmer’s markets, and the county has more acres of parks – per capita – than any other county in Illinois. And those are just some of the things to enjoy the rest of this summer in Vermilion County.
