The Midwest Veterans Association saw hundreds of motorcyclists start arriving at Fatman’s Warehouse Saturday morning for their the annual “Thunder Ride” to benefit homeless Veterans in East Central Illinois and West Central Indiana.
Prior to the big departure just after 11 AM, Midwest Veterans Association Executive Director Susan Gutteridge reminded us of the importance of this mission, especially since Veterans in need often keep it hidden.
AUDIO: It means everything. We’re getting our homeless Veterans off the streets and into permanent housing. There’s too many out there, and frankly they’re invisible and silent.

State Rep and USMC Veteran Brandun Schweizer addressed the cyclists and drivers before they left, also talking about how Veterans often need to be helped before they ask for help. We talked with him prior to that.
AUDIO: Oh my goodness this is amazing; to see all the folks here to ride for Veterans. Susan’s put on a great show here, and I just can’t wait for it to get started.
Fatman’s Warehouse owner Heather Pierce said she was thrilled to be hosting the home base for the Thunder Ride.
AUDIO: Oh, absolutely. We’re quite a few years on associating with the Midwest Veterans, and it’s a great day. We really like it a lot. A lot of work, but it pays off.
