The City of Danville has plans to honor a former long-time president of Vermilion Advantage Economic Development Corporation.
An ordinance being considered by the City Council’s Public Works Committee on Tuesday calls for the designation of Walnut Street, from Main Street on the south to Harrison Street on the north, as ‘Vicki Haugen Way’.
Haugen led local economic development efforts for 38 years. She died on February 11, 2020 following a five year battle with cancer.
The ordinance being considered at Tuesday’s committee meeting says the City Council desires to honor the memory of Vicki Haugen in recognition of her leadership, commitment and dedication to growth and development of the City of Danville and greater Vermilion County.
The name ‘Walnut Street’ would continue to apply for that segment of the street, but the City would erect signs noting it is ‘Vicki Haugen Way’ if the ordinance is approved by the committee and full city council.
