The City of Danville and Vermilion County are moving closer to the planned demolition of buildings commonly known as Bresee Tower and former Vermilion County Courthouse Annex. A resolution approving an intergovernmental agreement for the demolition of the buildings is on the agenda for Tuesday evening’s (August 13, 2024) meeting of the Danville City Council Public Works Committee.
The proposed agreement says the City will be responsible for all costs and expenses that the contractor bills the City for the demolition of Bresee Tower. And the County will be responsible for costs and expenses for the demolition of the Annex.
Under terms of the proposed agreement the City would prepare contract documents for the demolition of both the Tower and Annex, consistent with advice from a consultant…Farnsworth Group. Each bidder must quote the costs and expenses of demolishing each building, “with the understanding that such demolition of both buildings is intended to save certain costs and expenses”.
The successful bidder would submit billing invoices to the City of Danville which separately account for the costs and expenses for demolishing Bresee and the Annex. (Again…the City would pay for the demolition of Bresee Tower and the County would pay costs associated with the demolition of the Annex.) It will be up to the City and County to select a successfully qualified bidder for the demolition.
No date has been set yet for when the demolition might begin, but the contractor would have 550 days to complete the work after demolition permits are issued by the City. And the proposed agreement includes an early completion incentive of $325 for each day both demolitions and other work are completed prior to the 550th day.
