Former Tilton Police Chief David Cornett has pleaded guilty to three counts of Class A Theft Misdemeanors and will be serving sentences of 24 months of Conditional Discharge concurrently.
Prior to the Friday morning (Aug 23rd) plea, and sentencing by Judge Robert E. McIntire, charges against Cornett were reviewed. He was accused of taking two firearms from the Tilton Police evidence locker in January of 2021; a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun, and a 9mm Luger WIN cartridge. He was also accused of a theft that goes back to 1998, of a Colt 45 semi-automatic pistol.
The sentence against Cornett also includes fines of $1,439, the requirement to not own firearms, and the requirement to surrender his FOID card.
