Dangerous heat and humidity has prompted the National Weather Service to issue an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING for our area from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday (August 27, 2024). The heat index values could climb to 110. The heat index is how hot it feels when you combine the temperature with the humidity.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Area residents are being advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioning and stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible. And check on relatives and neighbors.
Because of the extreme heat and humidity expected Tuesday, Danville School District 118 has decided to transition to an E-Learning Day. Again, it is for Tuesday (August 27th, 2024).
All students are expected to participate in e-learning from home, following the guidelines and schedules provided by their teachers.
Additionally, all extracurricular activities and games scheduled for Tuesday, August 27th, are cancelled. District 118 Superintendent Dr. Alicia Geddis says school officials understand the importance of these activities, but adds the top priority is the safety of students and staff.
