ABOVE: Dines Machine and Manufacturing will be moving from Garfield Park in Danville. The business says it’s been trusted source for steel fabrication services since 1983. Services include welding and repairing machinery.
DANVILLE — The city is looking at an almost $1.5 million price tag for renovations to the former Del Storm Windows building that will allow the Dines Machine and Manufacturing Shop to move there as part of its Garfield Park improvements.
The Danville City Council’s Public Services Committee is expected to vote tonight on a $1.495 million contract with Schomburg & Schomburg Construction Inc., the lowest of two bidders, for the work required to relocate and reinstall a machinery and equipment facility, including construction, demolition, renovation and partial roof replacement.
The committee meets at 6 p.m. today at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building, 17 W. Main St.
Funding for the improvements will largely come from the city’s Community Reinvestment Fund, along with transfers from the Infrastructure Development and Improvement Program, East Voorhees Industrial Corridor Tax Increment Financing District reserves and Storm and Sanitary Sewer Fund.
The council bought the former Del Storm Windows building at 2003 E. Voorhees St. for $250,000 in 2022 for the move.
City officials had estimated a total cost of $2.1 million for the entire project, which also included a remodel study. Dines could move next year.
In other business:
- The committee also will consider applying for a grant for up to $350,000 from the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal to be used in the construction of new fire stations. The city likely will be seeking a bond issue to pay for that work along with renovations to the Old National Bank building before City Hall moves there. A study showed the costs for rebuilding the city’s three fire stations could be around $30 million.
- The committee will consider approving a resolution supporting Vermilion Advantage’s application to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for an Economic Empowerment Centers Program grant. The city would provide a $20,000 match for the program aimed at supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs in Danville and Vermilion County.
- The committee will vote on accepting a $30,000 grant from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office for the purchase and installation of surveillance cameras to promote safety and combat organized retail crime. The police department had requested a $60,000 grant. A budget amendment is necessary to cover the additional cost of mounting accessories, parts and equipment installation. The additional funds will come from the city’s general fund.
