The Vermilion County Board Executive Committee has approved an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Danville, pending one change on the city’s part. The agreement is for the simultaneous tear down of the city’s Bresee Tower and the county’s old Court Annex Building in one project. The one thing the committee would like the city to change is the county’s involvement in the deal where if the chosen contractor for the job finishes the work before 555 days is up, they receive a $325 bonus payment per day.
Committee member Steve Miller says since the city will be taking over the footprint of the Annex Building from the county once the project is done, it just makes sense for the county to not take part in bonus payments for an early finish.
AUDIO: I don’t think it really benefits the county taxpayers to have to participate in the payment of that expense. Essentially, the city is going to end up with this land, that’s our agreement. And I don’t think we should be a part of having to pay an incentive to the contractor.
County Board Chairman Larry Baughn says the way he sees it, once this is done, everything should be fine; and this intergovernmental agreement could indeed be on the full County Board agenda for September 10th.
AUDIO: If we can get that provision taken care of, I think our board will have no questions at all. I think we’re moving forward, we’re ready to get the project started, and we’re excited to work with the city on it.
The Danville City Council has a meeting this coming Tuesday, September 3rd.
