Between now and September 5th, Danville District 118 parents can respond to a survey on the District 118 website about cell phone policies. As Superintendent Dr. Alicia Geddis explained after Wednesday evening’s (Aug 28th) school board meeting, this is a chance for families to look at what other districts are doing, and put their two cents in.
AUDIO: Just to understand how students, staff, and parents feel about these cell phone bans that are enacted in a number of districts. We did not do it here; but we’d like to know how they feel about it, and what they think needs to be done. So, just to kind of gauge their thoughts.
The survey can be found at https://www.facebook.com/district118.
In attendance at the District 118 Board meeting was Michael Remole from Gateway Family Services in Potomac. He’s known for providing special therapy to students through animals. This school year, Remole says there will be special emphasis on pre-K students.
AUDIO: That way, as they head into kindergarten, they’re ready. We have a lot of kids that are really; they’re doing well academically, but they struggle in the social and emotional part. And so we want to really help them, as they prepare for a successful school career.
Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent John Hart stated that Kenneth D. Bailey Academy students, junior high and high school age, are off to a solid start in their temporary home at the Carle building on North Vermilion that is now rented by the district. The plan remains to have the Kenneth D. Bailey students back at the Main Street academy location sometime in the fall; and then the original plan of having the Carle building house some pre-K students, some alternative students, and an eventual day care for district employees, can continue.
