The Eastern Illinois Foodbank has announced a supplemental drive-through food distribution coming to Vermilion County. It is to help area families who are struggling with food insecurity.
The distribution will occur at True Grit Fitness at 1803 Georgetown Road in Tilton on Saturday, March 28th, from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. All Vermilion County residents who qualify for assistance are invited to get some of the free food.
In compliance with CDC guidelines, clients will remain in their vehicle and drive through from product station to station. The food will be loaded in their vehicle by volunteers. Those who plan to get food should make sure there is room for it in their trunk or back seat.
To be eligible, a household must have an income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level, or approximately $3,970 per month for a family of four.
A single person household can receive up to $1,926 a month and still qualify for assistance. A two person household can receive up to $2,607 a month. A three person household can receive up to $3,289 a month. Larger households can receive more each month and still qualify for assistance. If there are five people in a household, they can receive up to $4,652 a month. A household with 6 people can receive up to $5,333. A home with 7 people can receive up to $6,015 a month, and an 8 member household can get $6,696 a month and still qualify for the food.
